According to Sun columnist Earl E. Buie, in one of his “They Tell Me” columns in 1958, the Opera House’s seating capacity was between 1,200 and 1,400. Longtime San Bernardino resident Janet Miles, who died in 2008 at age 107, recalled in her memoirs (published by the San Bernardino Historical and Pioneer Society in 1994) there were box seats on the north and south walls with red velvet curtains at the rear. Birdie Bohan and Edith Ulrich were the pianists, Ernest De Soto, the violinist, and Mr. Parsons played the drums. At the San Bernardino County Recorder’s Office alone, more than $2 million in liens had been filed in 2023 by contractors and suppliers not paid for work completed at the Redlands and San Bernardino motels.

Salinas Mayor Kimbley Craig said in an email that the city is considering its options regarding the fate of the project at the former Sanborn Inn. As for two other motels in the city Shangri-La also was contracted to upgrade — the former Salinas Inn and the former Good Nite Inn — they were recently purchased by lending companies at recent foreclosure sales, she said. The beautiful edifice was torn down later that year when Court Street was extended from D Street through to the new courthouse on Arrowhead Avenue. “The city is working with those lenders, as well as the state, toward completion of those projects for use as permanent supportive housing,” Craig said. Embattled Los Angeles developer Shangri-La Industries has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on state-funded motel conversion projects to house the homeless in Redlands, Thousand Oaks and two other California communities. Eighteen California children who allege the United States’ climate policies intentionally discriminate against minors appeared in federal court this week with their landmark lawsuit in jeopardy. Shangri-La has accused its former chief financial officer, Cody Holmes, of embezzling millions of dollars in company money to live a lavish lifestyle, which put the developer’s state-funded projects in jeopardy, including those listed in its Chapter 11 filing. Redlands Assistant City Manager Chris Boatman told the council that the city would continue to provide $510,000 annually as an operating subsidy to house the homeless at Step Up in Redlands, which he said is now housing 132 formerly homeless residents.

San Bernardino’s judicial officers hear every case type under state law including civil, probate, mental health, family, juvenile dependency and delinquency, criminal, and traffic. A judge and jury sometimes hear witness testimony and other evidence and decide cases by applying the relevant law to the relevant facts. Cases range from disputes between landlords and tenants to corporate lawsuits; guardianships to court-ordered treatment in a psychiatric hospital; and simple traffic infractions to homicide. Located at what is now Court and D streets, the opera house was built four years before Los Angeles had one of its own and was for many years perhaps the finest and most elaborate theater in Southern California.

One of the main arguments of their lawsuit is that the EPA’s analyses of air pollution and greenhouse gases treats the lives of adults as worth more than those of children, according to Olson. “Their only redress is not the ballot box, elections or political power,” said Julia Olson, an attorney for Our Children’s Trust, an Oregon-based nonprofit that has filed legal actions over climate change in several states. In a lawsuit filed against Holmes and his ex-girlfriend, Madeline Witt, in February seeking $40 million in damages, Shangri-La alleged Holmes engaged in bank fraud and check kiting in 2022 and 2023 with Shangri-La’s lenders, banks and brokers. He allegedly transferred vast sums of company cash and property to bank accounts and shell companies he controlled and to Witt, according to the lawsuit.

This facility, referred to as the "T-Wing," was originally designed as offices for county agencies with no courtrooms. Over time, the T-Wing was pressed into service as a courthouse, housing 11 makeshift courtrooms. The project consolidated court operations, replacing seven facilities, and includes space for court administration, a court clerk, court security operations, a holding area, and facility support space. The building's sustainability features were designed for it to receive LEED Silver certification by the U.S. The project went on to achieve LEED Gold certification because of the shared sustainability goals of the Judicial Council of California (JCC), the court, the architect, and the builder. Sun said the bankruptcy filings are part of the developer’s plan to restructure and finish its commitments on the various Homekey projects. In a 321-page lawsuit filed in January in Los Angeles Superior Court, the state Housing and Community Development Department alleged Shangri-La breached its obligations under terms of its agreements with the Homekey program. It later was revealed that dozens of mechanic’s liens totaling millions of dollars have been filed over the past year at recorders’ offices in San Bernardino, Ventura and Monterey counties, the site of other Homekey projects in which Shangri-La was involved.

After obtaining state funding, Shangri-La, according to the state’s lawsuit, granted and recorded deeds of trust to secure loans from third-party lenders without first obtaining the state’s written authorization, as required under the Homekey agreements. Shangri-La then defaulted on the loans, causing the lenders to begin the foreclosure process. Boatman said the city’s termination of its agreement with Shangri-La now gives the city full control to ensure that money is spent appropriately and toward operational expenses. Shangri-La’s failure to pay resulted in more than a dozen lawsuits against the developer by contractors and lenders. “We are aware of the bankruptcy and the city will be meeting with our attorneys to discuss next steps. We have no further comment,” Redlands spokesperson Carl Baker said in an email on Wednesday.

Although aware of Shangri-La’s bankruptcy filing, city officials could not immediately say how it might impact their respective Homekey projects. A civil matter involves a lawsuit where one party sues another to recover money, property, to enforce a contract or an obligation, to collect damages for injury (tort), or to protect some civil right. Adam Stein-Sapir, a bankruptcy expert at the New York City-based Pioneer Funding Group, said the bankruptcy will pause any state court litigation and collections actions by creditors and/or lenders, which will give Shangri-La breathing room to get its financial affairs in order.

Gov. Gavin Newsom launched Project Homekey in June 2020 to protect unhoused individuals from the threat of the coronavirus pandemic. The state has allocated more than $3 billion to cities and counties to purchase motels, hotels, vacant apartment buildings and other properties to provide permanent housing for the homeless. That program funds the acquisition, construction and/or rehabilitation of adult and senior care facilities to serve people who receive Social Security and other government aid and are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

The María Merced Williams and John Rains House, built in 1860, has a history as colorful as the property’s gardens. Namesakes Rains and Merced, granddaughter of the prominent landowner Don Antonio Maria Lugo, built the home to withstand the hot Inland Southern California climate, and of course to entertain. The home featured multiple large rooms and guest quarters as well as an open flume that carried water from springs through the kitchen and into the patio under the house to the orchard, providing water to the plants and cooling the home. The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by an open house, which showcased the recent improvements. These significant investments will improve visitor experience, increase opportunities for learning and enjoyment, and ensure this historically significant site is protected and relevant for years to come.

The area also hosts various festivals and community events throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of togetherness among residents. When it comes to voting patterns, Riverside County has experienced shifts over the years. Historically leaning conservative, there has been a growing number of Democratic voters recently, reflecting a politically competitive area. This change underscores a community engaged with a wide range of issues and values.

Made from poured-in-place concrete, steel, and wood, the 4500 square foot house has five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Geographically, Riverside is nestled in the Inland Empire region, surrounded by mountains and hills, with the Santa Ana River running through it. This setting offers residents picturesque views and ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and fishing. The Mediterranean climate here means hot summers and mild winters, which is perfect for those who enjoy sunny days almost year-round. The event comes the day after President Biden used his clemency authority to pardon 11 people who were convicted of non-violent drug offenses and commute the sentences of five others.

Hunter allegedly caused $5,000 to $10,000 in damage and left bloodstains from a cut he sustained during the alleged incident around the home, the DA's office said. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon has filed felony charges against the man accused of breaking into Mayor Karen Bass’ home on Sunday morning. The Sheats-Goldstein mansion has some of the best views in Los Angeles from Downtown facing east all the way to Century City and even to the ocean. In 2016, Goldstein announced that the home would be donated to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) upon his death. The donation includes almost everything in the house including the furniture and art.

Yet the windowed walls, extreme opulence of the views along with the minimalist vibes and custom furniture pieces feel surprisingly of the present moment. Still, the eyes are almost immediately drawn to the outside. Spencer and his business partner Michael Heller currently consult officially with the iconic home, managing the space for high-end brand activations, organizing exclusive events and photoshoots.

The economy of Riverside is multifaceted, with healthcare, education, manufacturing, and retail among its major sectors. The presence of several universities and colleges, including the University of California, Riverside, contributes to a vibrant intellectual and cultural environment. Additionally, the healthcare sector plays a significant role in the local economy, offering numerous employment opportunities.

"I think it's so important to share them an amplify them because there are so many people that are in your position that can use the inspiration." "Is it not the sign of a civil society that we allow people a way to earn their way back, and give them the support and resources they need to do that?" Harris said. Harris announced a new rule from the Small Business Administration that lifts some restrictions on loans for people with criminal records. It turned out Santos, who was initially supported by many of New York's most prominent GOP leaders, lied about his family's religion, his education and his business experience. "There were no injuries to the occupants during this incident," the LAPD said in a statement Sunday, adding, "The suspect was taken into custody without incident."

While it isn’t open to the public, one of the most interesting rooms in the home is the master bedroom. There is absolutely nothing like it in any other home in the world. Situated above the pool, there are windows facing into the pool underwater.

Biden has recently been highlighting his efforts on marijuana reform, even mentioning it in his State of the Union address last month. For new residents, it's important to note that while Riverside offers an affordable cost of living compared to other parts of Southern California, the area does face challenges such as traffic congestion during peak hours. Hiring a housekeeper through a company such as Pro Housekeepers can help alleviate some of your concerns about inviting someone to work in your home. Most companies conduct background checks, and have pre-interviewed all their employees to ensure they have the skills you need. A trusted housekeeper becomes like part of the family, but they’re still a stranger when you first hire them, and that can make sharing your home a little awkward until you get to know one another. If you’ve always managed your own home, it can be hard to let someone take over, even if that’s why you hired them.

What Do We Clean?

Commercial housekeepers manage cleaning staff, inspect their work, and oversee the cleaning and repair schedule to ensure that everything is kept in good condition. But for serious grime or large homes, you might pay up to $700. Housekeepers charge about $160 for a once-per-week service, so $1,000 per month will afford weekly services and plenty of additional services. This type of service is ideal if you want a break from folding the laundry or scrubbing out the oven.

If you’re looking for cleaning services near me that cover it all, Molly Maid is the answer. We ensure that floors are vacuumed and mopped throughout the house, making them clean and fresh. We also tackle additional spaces, like hallways and entryways, to ensure no areas are overlooked. We get it — your busy schedule and responsibilities keep you running all week long.

Sometimes taking things like house cleaning off your schedule can give you more time to spend time with the people you care about. Schedule a regular cleaning service appointment and create time to do the things you care about most. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $25 and $50 per hour, per cleaner. However, the cost of house cleaning services near you might be different. A basic house cleaning typically includes tasks like carpet cleaning, wiping countertops, taking out the trash, doing the laundry and washing dishes. A deep house cleaning is a much more involved process, where all aspects of the home are given full attention for a cleanout.

Tip on a day-by-day basis, rather than leaving a larger tip at the end of your stay, as your cleaning staff may be different each time. When you hire a housekeeper, all your cleaning will be done by an expert. That means everything in your home will be thoroughly cleaned, using the right equipment and cleaning products. For homes where a full-time housekeeper is unnecessary, a light housekeeper may be the ideal solution.

It can take time for a new housekeeper to learn the ropes so it helps to be patient while your housekeeper settles in. There are some important questions to ask either on the phone or during the in-home consultation. If you're still unsure, you can find more questions and tips to choose a cleaning service.

Housekeepers play an important role in creating a comfortable and hygienic living environment for individuals and families, allowing them to focus on other aspects of their lives. You’ll know how much your project costs even before booking a pro.

What Do We Clean?

When hiring someone to work in your home, ask to see their housekeeping resume to look for relevant experience and references. You can often negotiate a lower hourly fee by offering full-time hours. A housekeeper who visits for a few hours each week will cost more per hour but less overall than a full-time housekeeper, which can help you find a housekeeper to suit your needs and budget. Many cleaning companies offer housekeeping services if you are looking for a part-time housekeeper to help you stay organized.

What questions should I ask when hiring a housekeeper?

We adapt to your schedule, providing the help you need exactly when you want it. The etiquette around tipping your housekeeper depends largely on the basis of their employment. For cleaners who work in your home every week or two, tipping a standard 15 percent of the cleaning cost is acceptable, or $15-$20 per visit. If you have two or more cleaners working together, split the tip between them. Housekeepers are also common in industries that provide accommodation, such as hotels and hospitals.

Our professional home cleaners ensure every room you want cleaned is a delight for you to come back to. If you’ve been looking for the best local home cleaning services near you, Molly Maid is the right choice. Trust the experts at Molly Maid to provide a custom cleaning service that exceeds your expectations. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and experience the convenience and flexibility of our custom cleaning services. The Maids is one of the only professional housekeeping services to specialize in cleaning for health. A unique approach to residential cleaning means every clean team minimizes the spread of bacteria, germs, and viruses.

Housekeepers or maids are hired to lightly clean and maintain certain aspects of the home. This might include dusting, washing dishes, changing sheets, doing some meal preparation and restocking the client’s groceries and personal care products. Tipping between 15 and 20 percent is considered an appropriate tip for maids and house cleaners — just as it would with a barber, food delivery driver or taxi operator. During the holidays, you might want to consider tipping a bit more.

For $50 a month, you may be able to hire a housekeeper for a one-time service. But keep in mind that less frequent services mean the housekeepers need to perform a deeper cleaning, which comes at a higher rate than general cleaning. If you keep your home pretty clean but could use a break once or twice a month, you can hire a housekeeper for a quick, one-hour cleaning session for $15 to $40. Housekeepers offer a wide range of services outside of cleaning the house.

The stress relief you experience when your home is clean is not just about aesthetics. A professionally cleaned home reduces allergens and bacteria, contributing to a healthier living environment. Our housekeeping services can also help increase your productivity, as a clean, organized space leads to a clear mind and relaxation. Our housekeeping cleaning services free up valuable time, letting you focus on what matters most.

The longer you’re exposed to them, the more likely they can cause health problems. Whether you’re looking for recurring cleaning services, occasional cleaning, or helping with cleaning during a move, our goal is to leave your home spotless and inviting. We take care of the details so you can relax and enjoy your clean, comfortable space.

Nominators celebrated Kyi, a single mother and refugee from Myanmar who came to the United States speaking limited English, for her generous optimism, extraordinary work ethic and resilient spirit. The main hurdle preventing people from hiring a housekeeper is the cost. Employing somebody full-time is never cheap, and the best housekeepers command a high fee. However if your time is more valuable to you when spent doing things you love, rather than chores, then the cost of a housekeeper could be well worth paying. Housekeepers don’t just keep your home clean, they can also lift the burden of too many responsibilities from your shoulders. If you always feel like you’re on the go, a housekeeper can help by running errands on your behalf.

This attention to detail and hometown service is why 96 percent of our customers would recommend The Maids to their family and friends. You may benefit from hiring a professional move-out cleaning service, depending on your budget, time frame and whether you will be getting a deposit back. But if you’ve had your house regularly deep-cleaned, or if your landlord will charge you for cleaning anyway, you can save costs by DIY-ing it.

Thanks to our unique team-cleaning process and decades of experience, a clean team can scrub and disinfect about 1,000 square feet per hour. Daily house cleaning may be necessary if you have a home with a large number of bedrooms with young children and kids, although other homeowners may benefit from weekly house cleaning. A weekly cleaner can clean the bathroom, kitchen, do laundry, vacuum and mop. An occasional deep house cleaning is most beneficial for people who have recently renovated a home or are looking to do a spring clean.
